The Thing Everyone Told Me After Reception

I didn’t expect people to come up to me afterward and whisper about the food. Like, actually pull me aside and go “not to speak badly about other weddings, but we are actually full!” More than one person said it.

So, here’s the thing — nobody’s going to remember your table decor. I promise. But they will remember if they left hungry.

We did a buffet from Deep Run Roadhouse and honestly, I think that’s part of why it worked out so well. People got to actually pick what they wanted, get seconds if they wanted, and nobody was sitting there staring at a tiny plated portion wondering if that’s really all they’re getting. The stuff that actually matters isn’t fancy menu language. It’s dumb simple things like — is there enough food, is it served before people are starving through the toasts and is actually still hot when they get it. That’s it. That’s the whole secret.

One more thing I care about a lot, and this is personal for me — I have food allergies, so I know exactly what it feels like. If you’ve got guests with allergies or dietary stuff going on, please ask your caterer your caterer how they’re actually handling that, and maybe evene taste it yourself beforehand. It’s such a small thing to fix and it makes a real difference.

So yeah. Feed your people well.
